ATEST National Call with Uniform Law Commissioners
On June 25, 2013, the Alliance to End Slavery and Trafficking (ATEST) was joined by Uniform Law Commissioners on a call to discuss the latest updates in the human trafficking field and to consult on the background of legislative policies and important objectives in the uniform anti-human trafficking act. The drafted uniform act incorporates key victim protection provisions by permitting the vacating of convictions for crimes committed by victims of human trafficking as a result of their trafficking situation, by creating a safe harbor for sexually exploited children from criminal prosecution, and by establishing an affirmative defense to certain criminal offenses.
