ATEST Teams up with SRIs in Support of Federal Business Transparency Legislation

For Release: February 10, 2012

The Alliance to End Slavery and Trafficking (ATEST) is partnering with the socially responsible investor community to advocate for the bipartisan passage of the federal Business Transparency on Slavery and Trafficking Act (H.R. 2759). This law would increase corporate accountability by requiring companies to tell regulators, consumers, and investors what actions they are taking to address slavery within their business operations, including supply chain and labor management. The Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR), on behalf of eighty investors, submitted a letter on January 26, 2011 to House Republican leadership in support of this legislation, and ATEST is advocating for additional co-sponsors and introduction of companion legislation in the Senate. The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre highlighted this partnership in its 24th issue of “On the Horizon.”
