ATEST Welcomes TVPA of 2017

The Alliance to End Slavery & Trafficking (ATEST) welcomes the introduction of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2017 (TVPA) (S. 1312), introduced today by Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), John Cornyn (R-TX), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Bob Corker (R-TN), and Marco Rubio (R-FL). This bill reauthorizes important portions of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) including funding for services for victims, law enforcement efforts to combat this crime, and enables the National Institute of Justice to create a methodology for a national prevalence study on trafficking.

ATEST looks forward to working with the bill’s sponsors to seek ways to strengthen this bill even further. We are excited to work with all members of the Senate to ensure broad bipartisan support for a speedy reauthorization of the TVPA, including the international provisions and the domestic provisions covered in the Abolish Human Trafficking Act of 2017 (S. 1311).
