Alliance to End Slavery and Trafficking Director
Background
· The anti-trafficking movement is at a strategic crossroads. Two decades of front-line
interventions and federal policy advocacy have established programmatic and policy
frameworks to sustainably eradicate forced labor and sex trafficking worldwide. What is needed
now is a concerted effort to build political will to scale-up the movement’s activities and impact.
· The Alliance to End Slavery and Trafficking (ATEST) is uniquely positioned to lead the
movement toward broader and deeper impact. As America’s leading anti-trafficking policy
coalition, providing policymakers with consensus recommendations from 15 of the nation’s top
domestic and international anti-trafficking organizations, ATEST has provided, and will continue
to provide, unparalleled leadership.
· The newly funded position of ATEST Director is a one-year contract appointment, paid by
and contractually reportable to ATEST member organization United Way Worldwide, directly
supervised by United Way in collaboration with the ATEST co-chairs, and taking strategic and
operational direction from ATEST coalition members.
Core ATEST Director Deliverables
· Ensure the Alliance is positioned at the forefront of the anti-trafficking movement by
coordinating internal activities and external relations that strengthen the Alliance’s reputation
and impact.
· Deepen collaboration with allied organizations and coalitions to strengthen the movement’s
collective voice and further establish ATEST’s role as a collaborative actor.
· Build consensus and momentum for increased anti-trafficking appropriations in coming
years, based on data and research among practitioners in the field. Coordinate ATEST
members to advocate for increased appropriations with the White House and Congress.
· Conduct administrative support activities for the Alliance, to allow member organizations to
focus on policy advocacy activities that advance Alliance goals.
· Coordinate fundraising activities to secure ongoing financial stability and operational
capacity for the Alliance.
Key Responsibilities
Alliance Coordination, Communications and Operations
· Support Alliance co-chairs in developing meeting agendas and facilitating bi-weekly calls,
quarterly meetings, and an annual retreat.
· Create periodic outreach newsletters to promote the goals and activities of the Alliance and
its member organizations.
Movement Outreach
· Establish routine communications with organizations and coalitions outside ATEST to
strengthen coordination of action, build ATEST’s reputation as a movement leader, and identify
emerging advocacy initiatives and potential for ATEST involvement.
· Conduct outreach and invitations to one or two survivor-led organizations to join ATEST
within one year, facilitate onboarding, and ensure successful integration into Alliance activities
and decision making, in partnership with the ATEST Membership and Partnerships
Subcommittee.
Congressional and Administration Engagement
· Ensure annual appropriations request letters to the administration and Congress are
completed and submitted, that appropriations subcommittee staff meetings are conducted and
that appropriations mark-ups are tracked, and necessary interventions are conducted.
· Advance the Alliance’s goal of increasing anti-trafficking appropriations and work with the
coalition to build the case, based on data and experience of service providers, survivors and
practitioners, to achieve this goal, by implementing ATEST coalition members’ strategy
decisions.
· Advance the Alliance’s goals for reauthorization of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act
through proactive engagement with congressional staff, by implementing ATEST coalition
members’ strategy decisions.
· Support the Alliance’s calls to action for the administration, as detailed in ATEST’s extensive
recommendations to the Biden-Harris administration, through consistent engagement with
executive departmental staff.
· Coordinate ATEST submission of public comments for the State Department’s annual TIP
Report, and timely responses to other calls for comment from federal agencies and Congress as
needed.
· Coordinate opportunities for congressional testimony, questions for the record, and other
policy submissions as needed.
· Create and maintain trackers for the status of anti-trafficking legislation and policy initiatives,
identifying key stakeholders, influencers and related engagement activities.
Traditional and Social Media Outreach
· Rebuild ATEST website to reflect the current presentation of the Alliance’s identity, values,
goals, and resources.
· Create op-eds, fact sheets, tip sheets, infographics and other media relations collateral to
publicly promote Alliance advocacy goals and resources for journalists.
· Develop and maintain a consistent social media presence for the Alliance and its policy
goals.
· Serve as media spokesperson for the Alliance when contacted, and routinely pitch story
ideas to journalists.

Salary and Location
The position is based in Washington, D.C.
The director is an independent contractor, paid at a rate of $10,000 for 150 hours of work per
month. The contract will be managed by ATEST member, United Way Worldwide. The Director
will work with United Way on all contract details and management.
