ATEST National Call on the ULC
On June 21, 2013, the Alliance to End Slavery and Trafficking (ATEST) was joined by over 50 organizations on a call to discuss the latest developments in the Uniform Law Commission’s committee meetings to draft a uniform anti-human trafficking act. The drafted uniform act incorporates key victim protection provisions by permitting the vacating of convictions for crimes committed by victims of human trafficking as a result of their trafficking situation, by creating a safe harbor for sexually exploited children from criminal prosecution, and by establishing an affirmative defense to certain criminal offenses.
