ATEST National Call on Trafficking Victims Protection: February 2013
ATEST held a national call today, urging more than 125 participants from anti-trafficking organizations nationwide to activate their networks and press House of Representatives members to approve the Senate version of the TVPA as an amendment to the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA.) [NOTE: The bill passed – see ATEST statement.]
On the call, ATEST coalition partners also:
- Discussed the importance of appropriations for anti-trafficking efforts and asked callers to review the ATEST Guide to Anti-Slavery Funding;
- Reviewed recommendations for Executive Branch action and pointed to ATEST report Path to Freedom, a road map for the second-term Obama Administration to follow as it works to fulfill its commitment to eliminate modern-day slavery; and
- Reviewed supply chain transparency and questioned methods to implement California’s law requiring businesses to disclose its measures to address human trafficking in its supply chains. Please read the ATEST report Beyond SB 657 for additional information.
